When PNG is the better choice

PNG is lossless, so hard edges stay crisp: charts, line drawings, logos, screenshots and pages of small text all hold up better than they do in JPG, which softens fine detail as it compresses.

  • Sharp text and thin lines — ideal for diagrams and technical pages.
  • Flat colour areas — no compression artefacts around headings or tables.
  • Transparency is preserved where the page itself uses it.
  • The trade-off is file size: PNG images are typically several times larger than JPGs of the same page.

How to convert PDF to PNG

  1. 1. Add your PDF with the button above, or drag it onto the drop zone.
  2. 2. Choose the pages — all of them, the first page only, or a range such as 2-5.
  3. 3. Pick the resolution. 150 DPI matches screen quality; 300 DPI suits printing.
  4. 4. Convert, then download each PNG or take the whole set as a ZIP.

PNG or JPG?

Use PNG for graphics, screenshots and anything with crisp edges or flat colour. Use PDF to JPG for photographs, scanned pages and anything that will be emailed or posted online, where smaller files matter more than pixel-exact edges.
